Vocabulary project

Page history last edited by Luciana Caldeira 13 years, 1 month ago

Hi folks,

This is our final project for this semester.

The first thing you have to do is to see this slide. It brings suggestion on how to learn vocabulary efficiently and effectively.

Karenne Joy Sylvester is a teacher and she created the slide. Take a look at it and see which of the tips are the most interesting for you.

Don't forget to leave a comment with your impressions.

Now that you know what knowing a word is, here are the activities you will have to do:

  1. Choose a word  you didn't know yet until you read Forum 1 page;
  2.  Choose ten of the suggestions Karenne gives in her slide and apply it to the word you have chosen (you can use her work with the word FRIEND as an example);
  3.  Create a  Power Point Presentation or a presentation at Prezi (it is very funny) to show your classmates in class. ( I hope the internet connection is stable next class).

Well, see you next class.

P.S.: Saturday class, homework for March, 19th,

       Friday class, homework for March, 18th.

I really loved this slide. The teacher said, in a very kind slide, how to improve your vocabulary. This is very difficult, I think. A lot of teachers don't know how to teach this to their students. At school, my english's teacher often gives us a big list of twenty or maybe thirty words and he say: "You have to know these words for our test and your university entrance exam". I really hate it, 'cause the lists usually have words which I've never seen before and I'll never see again. It's boring and difficult.

Hi Raianne,
I had the same feeling when I was studying English and I still have some difficulty, but I think these ideas are possible to use with words that are interesting for us.
Just remember that nationalities are written with a capital letter, so English teacher and there is no need to use apostrophe there. Keep checking our wiki page and sharing your opinions.
Thanks for your participation.

These tips are very nice. I lot of words that I didn't know or that I forget the meaning can be reminded by songs. It's terrible when I KNOW that I know a word but I can't say what it means, so when I remember the context of it in a song, everything gets clearer. I think we really can use the teacher's tips. What we need to do is to choose the best ones to a certain moment.

These slides are very good. I really have a little difficulty with vocabulary. I know many words but I can't use in a sentence 'cause when I'm speaking, the meaning of some words disappears of my mind. Using the method of the slides, I could memorize the words easier, It's really good.

I realy liked these slides! Learn a new word can't be just check the meaning in the dictionary; we have to work hard and spend time learning a new word if we want to know how to use in differents situations and never forgets! My husband is studying English at Pró-linguas too, he's in B-4, and every day he asks me what's the meaning of manys words! Normaly I know the meaning, but when I don't know it's a word I've heard and I don't remember anymore! It's terrible!

The tips are vice useful,because from one word we can have many meanings and many prefixes and sufixes to use.And we can use the tips to now what meaning is useful for the context and it is a way to remember all the vocabulary.I will try to adept this tips in my study of English.

When I was reading the slides, I saw a important piece in the beginning: we need to learn how to use the words and not Just know the meanings in a dictionary. This is important when we use prefixes and sufixes, like Nathália “said”. Other interesting thing is that, on one trip, a girl addessed me and talked to me in English. I had many difficulties to speak with her, I stayed nervous. Because of this, is important we can use what we learned anywhere or circumstance. The example of the word “friend” is very interesting and useful.

Teacher, please, can you tell us about our mistakes in these comments? Thank you very much!

Hi Grazielle,
I'vebeen thinking about how I could comment on the mistakes. I don't know if all of you would feel all right with being corrected here in this space. As you have asked I can understand that you don't mind if I comment on your mistakes, right?
So if the others agree with you I will post my comments. I just need you all to say I can do it here, OK?
So let's see:
1. The article before nouns starting with a vowel is AN, so "an important piece...";
2. I "got" nervous, instead of "stayed", that's Portuguese interference;
3. In the sentence: ...is important we can use what we learned anywhere or circumstance" Be careful!
There's no sentence with no subject in English, so "it" is important "to be able to use" what we learned anywhere or "at any" circumstance.

That' it dear, just a few mistakes and I'm sure we can correct them easily.
Cheers!

I think that slide says so much about my problems. Because we have a lot of differentes words with the same meaning end sometimes I stay with doubts about what word is correct at a especific case that I'm trying to say. So faced with this situation I always note the words that I have problem during the class and during my studies I seek to remedy my doubts. I find these suggestions on the slide very good end I will improves my studies.

Fell free to correct my comments. Bye Bye.

With these slides we could see other ways to learn new and different words. We learn its meanings, antonyms, synonymous and how to use them in conversations and texts.
